Piano/Guitar
Sam Mell is a 2009 BM candidate at Brandeis University
majoring in art and anthropology with a minor in music. He has always
possessed a profound and indescribable love of music. Sam has been playing
piano for twelve years and guitar for six. He has also been teaching
both instruments since 2002 and has been known to dabble in such instruments
as bass guitar, djembe drums, tenor saxophone, and xylophone. A graduate
of the San Francisco Certificate of Merit program for musical performance
and theory with honors, Sam is well-versed in the technical and theoretical
inner workings of Western-based music. He believes that, if a musician
is equipped with a real understanding of the piano or guitar and the
music that it makes, he can do anything he wants within the realm of
music. For this reason, Sam encourages his students to spend time exploring
their instrument, composing, and just "fooling around"...after
they have finished practicing, of course. Sam currently writes, plays
lead guitar, and sings backup for a rockin’ band, unnamed as of
yet but clearly destined to take the world by storm in the near future.
