Teacher Bios
Founder and Director,
Jazz Piano, Composition
Stan Schertzer is a graduate of Berklee College
of Music with a BM in Composition. Stan has 33 years of piano
teaching experience in all mediums from pop and jazz to the
classics. Stan instills on his many wonderful teachers the
importance of creativeness and self-expression through their
student's instruments. He is currently playing keyboards and
arranging for the band Key Winds, performing in varied venues
throughout the New England area. He is also musical director
and arranger for Cantor Jodi Schechtman of Temple Beth Am
currently working on an upcoming CD of original songs for
Shabbat Unplugged.
Piano, Voice, Harp
Maeve Gilchrist was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Daughter to an Irish mother and Scottish father she grew up immersed in
traditional folk music. At an early age Maeve was accepted into the City
of Edinburgh Music School where she spent seven years studying classical
piano, clarsach (Celtic harp), pedal harp and towards the end, jazz
vocals. From thirteen onwards, Maeve was an in demand member on the
traditional music scene in Scotland where she performed at events such
as the opening of the Scottish Parliament, the Celtic Connections
Festival and the International Edinburgh Harp Festival. At seventeen
Maeve received a full scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in
Boston, USA where she studied jazz and world music, alongside a colorful
career as a professional musician and teacher. In addition to her world
renowned recording career and numerous performances from Scotland to
Hawaii, Maeve has enjoyed a teaching career as well. She has taught
voice lessons at Blue Ridge Irish Music School in Virginia, as well as
harp instructor at Boston Irish Music School at Harvard University and
Boston College. She has also taught general music for Creative
Classrooms NYC. Maeve brings a vast wealth of experience and knowledge
to MTC. Her own personal philosophy is to keep on enjoying and
contributing to the world of music as a performer, educator and
composer.
Piano and Voice
Audrey Gutfreund received her Bachelor Of Arts in 2005 from
Lawrence University in Wisconsin with her concentration in music. She is
currently attending Lesley University in Cambridge where she is doing
graduate work toward achieving her Master Of Education. Prior to
college, Audrey has studied the piano for 10 years and classical voice
for two. In college, she regularly performed on each instrument, as well
as engage in study of song and piano literature, musical theatre
techniques and diction. Audrey has taught both piano and voice lessons
at Roger's Middle School Campus for Citizen Schools in Wisconsin. She is
a sensitive and thoughtful teacher who will bring a wealth of musical
knowledge and talent to the MTC community. Audrey is committed to
bringing out the best in her students and gives them the tools to be
able to achieve this.

Guitar/Beginning Piano/Trumpet Bass
Paul Johnson
received an honorary BA degree in
Music from Boston College in 2001. He has been teaching private music
lessons since 2000 and currently teaching guitar at Daddy's Junky Music
in Peabody. While at BC Paul participated in the Boston College
Screaming Eagles marching band playing trumpet. He teaches various
styles including rock, blues and jazz. He has a strong passion for music
and is able to bring this excitement for music to his lessons. Paul
motivates his students to seek higher levels of music accomplishment
empowering them to express themselves in their music. He totally fits in
with the MTC philosophy of encouraging his students to make their best
efforts at all times while still having a fun learning experience.
Piano/Jazz Piano/Electric Bass
Stephen Learson received his Bachelor of Music
degree from Berklee College Of Music in 2005. He was Music Director
and instructor at the Wallingford Arts Center in Media , PA in 2004
with children from ages 6-12 conducting music workshops including singing
and making instruments among other classes. He has taught privately since
2003. Stephen is familiar with the Suzuki Method of teaching. He also
teaches jazz, improvisation and how to read lead sheets for those students
who want to create their own music. Stephen is an avid composer and
arranger as well as a musician. He wants his students of MTC to come
away from his lessons wanting to practice and look forward to their
next lesson.

Guitar/Bass/Beginning Piano/Percussion
Charlie McLaren is a 2005 B.M. graduate of Berklee College
of Music with special emphasis on jazz studies, composition and world
music with performances on guitar and percussion. He has taught private
lessons since 2002. His recent journey to Ghana, West Africa has honed
his knowledge and skills in percussion instruments from that part of
the world. Charlie was a key performer with the West African Drum and
Dance Ensemble at the Berklee Performance Center this past November.
He has participated in numerous recording sessions at Berklee and private
studios throughout the Boston area. Charlie listens to his students
and teaches them based on their needs and interests in the music world.
He is a great addition to the MTC staff this year!
Percussion/Guitar/Beginning Piano
Mark Nathanson musical studies began with piano
at six, drums at ten and attended The Cleveland Institute of Music at
eleven for theory and drums. He holds a performance diploma from Berklee
College of Music‘92’. Mark has toured internationally with
Broadway productions and R&B legend Big J McNeely. One of his highlights
was a tour to Brazil with the Broadway revival of The King & I.
He brings to students his experience in Dance, Jazz, Folk, Rock, American
roots, and World beats, improvisation, composition and original projects.
He is most interested in developing the relationship between the individual
student's mind and potential instrumental skills in a focused and fulfilling
way.

Beginning-Intermediate Piano/Bass Guitar
Gerry Rollock is a 1990 graduate of Berklee College
of Music with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education certified
primary and secondary school. He has taught music in Madison Park High
School, U-Manna Banes Middle School and St. Angelo’s Catholic
School in Mattapan. Gerry is an active performing musician playing in
many venues throughout the Greater Boston area. He brings to the Collaborative
a working knowledge of his craft and through his teaching skills inspires
others in the process.

Beginning-Intermediate Piano/Guitar
Skot Verozci is a talented guitarist, pianist, singer and
songwriter with an understanding and fluency in jazz, pop, rock and
blues styles which translates quite well to his teaching skills. He is a
2002 Bachelor’s recipient from Berklee College of Music and went on to
do graduate studies at New England Conservatory from ’02 to ’03. After
college, he headed to New York City to study with Kenny Werner (author
of Effortless Mastery) and to play countless gigs in clubs in and around
the city as a leader and a sideman. He was a featured member of the
Chris Baker group and appears on their album Everything is a Blues
on Great Bend Records. His most recent teaching appointment was at the
Music in Chappaqua School in Chappaqua, NY from 2004 – 2007 where he was
instrumental in developing their well-known guitar program and rock and
roll summer camp. His students adored him according to Janet Angier,
director of the Music In Chappaqua School. Skot has returned to Boston
to work on personal music projects and is excited to be teaching for
Music Teachers Collaborative.
Saxophone/Flute/Clarinet/BeginningPiano
Kosei Yamaguchi in
1984 Kosei began playing saxophones. It was only after three years when
he was invited as a guest soloist to perform Pictures at an
Exhibition by Toko Gakuen Orchestra in Japan. His
professional career began with this magnificent event. Through his
experience with many teachers and giving advice to his fellow musicians,
Kosei found joy in teaching. It became his mission to pass on
everything he had learned to his students whether by performing or
teaching. In 1998, Kosei moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of
Music where he earned The Professional Diploma Magna Cum Laude with a
Major in Performance. Besides saxophones, he studied flute, clarinet,
piano, percussion, arranging, composition and music business. He has
performed with many great musicians such as Vadim Neselovskii, Maria de
Barros, Kalú Monteiro, Frantz Rolls, Francisco Pais Cardoso, Marta
Gomez, Fernando Isella, to name a few. Through his experience, he has
become a versatile musician who can play Jazz, Classical, Cape Verdean,
Brazilian, Haitian, Latin, Andean, Flamenco, Pop, R&B, Gospel, Rock and
funk. Kosei brings his performance experiences and 10
years of teaching to the Music Teachers Collaborative. Kosei wishes to
share the joy of music with as many people as possible. Let’s have fun!

Guitar/Percussion/Piano/Bass
Jon Zucchi
started playing guitar, drums and piano, being influenced by his
mom, a music educator, when he was just 8 years old. His joy and love of
music was evident as he grew older by being asked to play in the high
school jazz band and for various shows at his school. Jon went on to study
at Providence College, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music
Theory and Composition. Jon took various music courses at Boston
University, New England Conservatory and Berklee College Of Music. His
extended education in the field of music was further evidence of his
love and devotion to teach the instruments that have given him so much
pleasure over the years. In 2008, Jon obtained his Master of Arts Degree
in Music Education from Boston Conservatory. Jon started with MTC in 2003. He taught Guitar classes at
Plymouth High School in 2008. We are very happy to have him back on our
staff this year.
